Block Details - Prime Brokerage/Step-In Orders

Overview

NOTE:

The top portion of the Block Details for Prime Brokerage or Step-In Allocations displays the Order Action, Symbol/CUSIP (including the Security Description), and the Block Account Number. This data is used to determine which orders and allocations are included in the Block Details.

The informational section, or cartridge, above the tabs provides a snapshot of the orders and allocations related to the Prime Brokerage or Step-In Order. It also contains the Average Price Per Share, which is the Fidelity-calculated average price of today's executions for all the associated block orders.

If you wish to use the proceeds of a sale to fund a buy, you can select the Commit Allocations button within the cartridge to force the allocations through immediately. If you are selling assets, this action increases the Net Cash in an account and you can submit the buy allocations using the proceeds of the sale. If you do not use the Commit Allocations function, you must wait until the next day for the allocations to be applied to the accounts' cash or for the securities to display in the customer accounts.

Pending allocations do not go up against account restrictions, which can cause issues. Therefore, only select the Commit Allocations button when you are sure there will be no additional orders/allocations for the same security and same order action (Buy or Sell) today. It is not possible to reverse committed allocations within the platform; once allocations are committed, you must process an Error Correction to make changes. Any allocations left pending automatically commit overnight.

Top

There are two tabs below the orders/allocations cartridge; they are Prime Brokerage or Step-In Allocations and Unassigned Allocations. You can sort the contents of these tabs (Prime Brokerage or Step-In Allocations Tab in Sent view only) in either Ascending or Descending order according to the Account, Quantity, or Status column. The sortable columns are labeled in blue lettering. NOTE: The sorting method of the list is indicated by a small arrow in the selected column heading; the arrow points upward for Ascending ordering and points downward for Descending ordering. Selecting the column toggles between Ascending and Descending order. You cannot sort the contents of the Unsent list on the Prime Brokerage or Step-In Allocations Tab.

The left-most column in the tabs is unlabeled and is known as the Order Indicator column. It is used to flag errors or potential errors with the orders. If there is an icon in this column, place your mouse over it to display a pop-up message describing the issue.

Allocate Proportionally Unsent

Use this function when the share quantity of your Unsent allocations is greater than the total executed share quantity of your block trade. An example is when one of your block trade(s) has not been filled completely by the end of the trading day and you quickly want to allocate proportionally to the match executed share amount of your block trade.

This choice is enabled when all of the following situations are true:

  • The block order's Status is Filled, Partially Filled, or Verified Canceled with Fills (meaning the number of Executed shares is greater than zero).
    AND
  • The total allocation share quantity is greater than the total executed share quantity of the block trade.
    AND
  • All allocations are in an Unsent Status (meaning the number of Sent allocations is zero).
Build Block Unsent and Sent

Use this function to create an order for the amount of the share difference between the larger share quantity of allocations for a specific security and order action and the share quantity for block orders with the same security and order action.

NOTE: This choice is enabled when there is an overallocation - the number of Allocated shares is greater than the number of orders shares.

Unassigned Allocations Tab

Overview

The Unassigned Allocations Tab lists allocations that match each other based on their Block Detail criteria (Transaction Type, Action, and Security), but are not associated yet with a Block Trading Account Number. You have unassigned allocations if you import allocations and your firm has more than one Block Trading Account. When your firm has a single Block Trading Account, the import process assigns the Block Account Number to the allocations. However, if you have more than one Block Trading Account, the import process cannot designate the account number and leaves the allocation's Block Account Number field blank.
