Managing Model Assignments

Top

Overview

NOTE:

Use the Manage Model Assignments screen to assign, reassign, or unassign accounts, clients, or groups to/from a model. You can also use this screen to designate a client as a household, if entitled, and assign a model, as well as undo a household. You access the Manage Model Assignments screen by selecting Models > Manage Model Assignments or by selecting the Save & Assign button when creating, copying, or editing a model.

The top portion of the screen provides you with the ability to search for accounts, clients, or groups and determine if they currently are assigned to a model or to search for a model and display the accounts, clients, or groups assigned to it.

The results of your search display in the Select and Assign List. The contents represents the accounts, clients, and/or groups that you wish to assign, reassign, or unassign. When the list initially displays, all entries are collapsed. Use the right-facing arrow to expand an entry. Once expanded, select the downward-facing arrow associated with an entry to collapse it. You can expand or collapse all entries by selecting the Expand All or Collapse All links respectively that display above the list. You can filter the list by selecting the Display only Unassigned Clients, Groups, Accounts check box, which limits the list display to only Clients, Groups, or Accounts that are not assigned to a model.

By default, all check boxes are selected. Also, selecting the check box in the column header automatically selects all entries if you uncheck any in the list. Use the check boxes to choose the entries that you wish to manage. You can perform additional searches to add entries to the list.

There are a number of workflows associated with this screen, based on the way in which you access it. Therefore, these scenarios are described separately.

Customizing the Table

NOTE:

The Manage Model Assignments Table has a Customize icon that you can use to personalize the list to match your business requirements. Columns identified as required cannot be removed from the display and those indicated as fixed also cannot be removed nor can they be repositioned. Assigned Brokerage Model is the required column. Fixed columns are Clients, Groups, Accounts and Type. NOTE: The settings you establish are user-specific, saved when you log out of the platform, and then applied when you log back in.

  1. Select the Customize link to display the Customize Manage Model Assignments Table window. The entries in the Selected Columns box represent the columns that display currently. The contents of the Available Columns box are the columns that are available, but not included in the display at the time.
  2. To add a column to the list, select (highlight) the desired entry in the Available Columns section. The Add button activates.
  3. Select the Add button to move the entry to the Selected Columns box, so it will be included in the display.
  4. If you wish to delete a column from the display, highlight the desired entry in the Selected Columns box. The Remove button activates.
  5. Select the Remove button to move the entry to the Available Columns box, so it will not be included in the display. NOTE: Removing the column only removes it from the display. It does not delete the column contents. The Assigned Brokerage Model entry is a required column, so you cannot remove it from the list (Remove button does not activate when this entry is selected). However, you can reposition it. Clients, Groups, Accounts and Type are fixed and cannot be either removed or repositioned (Remove, Move Up, and Move Down buttons do not activate when these entries are selected).
  6. If you wish to change the column order, highlight an entry in the Selected Columns box and then select the Move Up or Move Down button to reposition it to the desired location.
  7. When all settings are complete, select the Save button to save your changes and close the screen. NOTE: If you select the X at the top right of the Customize Manage Model Assignments Table window before saving any changes you made, a warning pop-up displays to let you know that your unsaved changes will be lost. Select the No button to close the warning pop-up and return to the Customize Manage Model Assignments Table window with your changes intact. OR Select the Yes button to close the warning pop-up, ignore your changes, and close the Customize Manage Model Assignments Table window.
    OR
Select the Reset to defaults link to return the settings to their system defaults.

Assigning a Model

This scenario is the simplest situation, where no model assignments currently exist for any of your account, client, or group selections.

NOTE: Although a group is used in this example, you can follow the same process for individual accounts and clients.

Current Model Assignment

Selection Model Assignment
Group: 1 Unassigned
- Account 1 Unassigned
- Account 2 Unassigned
- Account 3 Unassigned
  1. Select Trade > Trading Tools > Portfolio Modeling & Rebalancing to launch Modeling & Rebalancing.
  2. Select Models > Manage Model Assignments. The Manage Model Assignments screen displays.
  3. You can search for an account, client, group or model. For this example, we will search for Group 1, which contains Account 1, Account 2, and Account 3. Neither the group nor the accounts within it are assigned to a model.
  4. When the search completes, Group 1 displays in the Select and Assign List. NOTE: Although we will not do so in this example, you could perform another search and add another entry or entries to the Select and Assign List.
  5. Search for Model 1 using the Select a Model to Assign field and Lookup button combination.
  6. When your Select and Assign List choices are complete, select the Assign button.
  7. If you chose to proceed with the assignment, the pop-up closes and a confirmation message displays on the Manage Model Assignments screen.

Creating and Assigning a Household

If you are entitled to household rebalancing, you create the household on the Manage Model Assignments screen and assign it to a model.

IMPORTANT: Households can only be defined at the single client level. You cannot designate a group as a household. When you designate a client as a household, all accounts within the client are included in the household. Designating a client as a household determines how the client is rebalanced and analyzed for drift purposes.

  1. Select Trade > Trading Tools > Portfolio Modeling & Rebalancing to launch Modeling & Rebalancing.
  2. Select Models > Manage Model Assignments. The Manage Model Assignments screen displays.
  3. You can search for the client you wish to assign to a household.
  4. When the search completes, the client displays in the Select and Assign List.
  5. You can search for the model you wish to assign to the client.
  6. Select the Create and Assign Household button to designate the client as a household and assign the selected model.
  7. If no errors are detected, a confirmation message displays, indicating the selected client and accounts were converted into a household and assigned to the selected model. The Household column displays Yes, and the model displays in the Assigned Brokerage Model column.

Undoing a Household

NOTE: Undoing a household does not unassign the model from the client or associated accounts.

  1. Select Trade > Trading Tools > Portfolio Modeling & Rebalancing to launch Modeling & Rebalancing.
  2. Select Models > Manage Model Assignments. The Manage Model Assignments screen displays.
  3. You can search for the client assigned to a household.

  6. A pop-up warning screen displays.
Select the Continue button to proceed with the undo of the household.
    OR
Select the Cancel button to return to the Manage Model Assignments screen without performing the undo of the household.
