Overview

Asset location rules enable you to establish rebalancing preferences for an authorized household. When the Household rebalance is run, you can view how rules impacted the rebalance results.

All accounts in the household must have the same model assignment in order to create the rule and only securities in the model can be applied to it. If model conflicts exist in the household, you must resolve the conflict before proceeding. (Resolve Model Conflicts)

Create an Asset Location Rule

Establish a rule at the security level within a model, or if an Asset Class model, at the category, sleeve, or security level.

After you identify the household to apply the new rule, the Asset Location Rules window displays the household's assigned model, model type, number of accounts in the household, and number of existing rules, if applicable.

To create an asset location rule

  1. Select Account Settings > Asset Location Rules.

    - The Select Household window displays.
    - Select a listed household or search for a household.
    - The Asset Location Rules window now displays.
    - To choose a different household, select Change Household.

  2. From the Rule drop-down list, choose the rule objective:

    Buy Only
    Don't Buy
    Don't Sell

  3. From Apply to, indicate how to identify the security to which the rule applies.

    If model type is Asset Class:

    - Choose Select From Model.
    - Select Browse Model.
    - Choose a category, sleeve, or security in the model.
    - The structure is shaded to demonstrate your choice.
    - Choose Select.

    If model type is not Asset Class:

    - Select the magnifying glass icon next to Security ID.
    - Securities in the model list in Symbol order.
    - Only securities in the model can be selected.
    - In the Symbol column, select a link.

  4. In the table's left-most column, select the check box of each account to assign the rule to.

    - To select all household accounts, select the top-most check box.

  5. Select Create Rule.

    - The Rules section lists the rules associated with the household.

Remove an Asset Location Rule

You can remove a rule from one or more accounts in the household. When you remove a rule from all accounts, this effectively deletes the rule.

To remove a rule

  1. Select Account Settings > Asset Location Rules.

    - The Select Household window displays.
    - Select a listed household or search for a household.
    - The Asset Location Rules window now displays.
    - To choose a different household, select Change Household.

  2. In the Rules section, choose how to group or organize the household's rules within this section:

    Rule (Default)
    Group assignments by rule.
    Account #
    Group assignments by account number.

  3. Based on how you grouped the rules, you can either remove a rule or remove an account from a rule:

    If you grouped by Rule:

    - Select Remove to remove an account from the rule.
    - Select Remove All to remove all accounts from the rule.
    - This choice effectively deletes the rule.

    If you grouped by Account #:

    - Select Remove to remove a rule from a listed account.
    - Select Remove All to delete all rules from the account.

  4. When a message prompts you to confirm the removal, select Continue.
