Troubleshoot Model Conflicts
- Assign a Model
- Unassign a Model
- Customize the Window
If entitled:
- Create a Household for Rebalancing
- Undo a Household
After you create a model, you can assign the model to clients, groups, or accounts with the objective of rebalancing the accounts according to the model's specifications. When needed, you can also unassign a model.
Using Manage Model Assignments, you can also designate a client as a "household," if entitled, or undo the household. Designating a client as a household impacts how the client is rebalanced and analyzed for drift purposes.
Model Assignment Status
As you locate the clients, groups, and accounts to assign, columns in the table (Assigned Brokerage Model and, if entitled, Assigned WI Model) indicate the assignment status by model type.
An account should be assigned to only one model at a time. When an account is assigned to more than one model, conflicts result and prevent you from rebalancing the account or running its drift report.
Use either PM&R function to resolve model conflicts:
Manage Model Assignments
View assignment status, and then choose whether to assign or unassign a model.
Resolve Model Conflicts
View when duplicate assignments occur to an account, and then choose which assignment to retain. (Resolve Model Conflicts)
Model assignments to clients and groups are implemented at the user level. For example, if you assign a client or group to a model, your authorized accounts in the client or group are assigned to the model. Accounts to which you are not authorized in the client or group are not assigned to the model.
In another example, a conflict results when one user assigns a model to an account at the account level and another user assigns a model to the same account at the client level.
When groups contain both brokerage and Workplace Investing (WI) accounts, the WI model assignments apply only to WI accounts. Similarly, Brokerage model assignments apply only to brokerage accounts.
Furthermore, WI model assignments impact only those WI accounts in the group associated with the same investment plans as are represented within the WI model. Model assignments to accounts not associated with the same plans as the WI model are unchanged.
Note
You cannot assign WI models to clients.
Model assignments to households are implemented at the household level. When adding an account to a client already designated as a household with an existing model assignment, that household becomes invalid. To resolve, you must undo the household designation and, with the account newly added to the client, create the household again.
When creating a household, you must be authorized to all the accounts associated with the client.
Use this procedure to assign a model to a client, group, or account. You may also use this procedure when a client, group, or account are already assigned, but you want to assign a different model.
Although this procedure explains how to assign a model at the overall client-level or group-level, you may also assign models at the individual account-level within a client or group. This means that not all accounts within a client or group must have the same model assignment.
To assign a model
At the top of the window, select Add.
- Select what to assign to the model. (Client, Group, Account Lookup)
Back on Manage Model Assignments:
- Selections list in the Select and Assign table.
- If viewing a client or group, select Expand All.
- Review assignment status in the Assigned Model columns.
- To view just unassigned, above table, select Display only Unassigned...
- To remove a row from the assignment, clear its check box.
- To clear table and start again, above table on right, select x.
Above the table, from Select a model to assign, search for the model. (Model Lookup)
Back on Manage Model Assignments, select Assign.
- A message prompts you to confirm the assignment.
- Select Continue to Assign.
- The Assigned Model column displays the assigned model name.
Use this procedure when the client, group, or account are already assigned to the same model, but you want to unassign them from that model.
To unassign a model
At top of window, select Add.
- Select what to unassign. (Client, Group, Account Lookup)
Back on Manage Model Assignments:
- Selections list in the Select and Assign table.
- If viewing a client or group, select Expand All.
- Review assignments in the Assigned Model columns.
- To remove a row from being unassigned, clear its check box.
Select Unassign.
- A message prompts you to confirm the assignment.
- Select Unassign All Accounts for Selected.
- The Assigned Model column now displays "Unassigned."
If entitled to household rebalancing, create a household and then assign it to a model.
A household represents just one client. When you designate a client as a household, all accounts within the client are included in the household. Designating a client as a household determines how the client is rebalanced and analyzed for drift purposes.
Guidelines
To create a household for rebalancing
At top of window, select Add.
- From the drop-down list, choose Client Name.
- Select the magnifying glass.
- Search for a client. (Client, Group, Account Lookup)
Back on Manage Model Assignments, select Expand All to list the accounts in the client.
- If client is already a household, Yes displays in Household column.
Above the table, from Select a model to assign, search for the model. (Model Lookup)
Back on Manage Model Assignment, in the column to the left of the client, select its check box.
Below the table, choose Create and Assign Household.
- A message prompts you to confirm the assignment.
- Select Continue to Assign.
- The Household column for the client now displays Yes.
Undoing a household does not unassign the model from the client or its associated accounts. This simply removes the household designation from the client. Although the household is "undone," the client and model assignment remain intact.
Use this procedure to resolve household model conflicts. Conflicts in households often occur when an account is added to a client after the household was created, which causes the household to be invalid. To resolve, follow these recommended steps:
- Undo the household
- Edit the client to add the account, if needed
- Create the household again
To undo a household
At top of window, select Add.
- From the drop-down list, choose Client Name.
- Select the magnifying glass.
- Search for the client. (Client, Group, Account Lookup)
Back on Manage Model Assignments, confirm that Yes displays in the Household column for the client.
Below the table, choose Undo Household.
- A message prompts you to confirm the action.
- Select Continue.
- The Household column now no longer displays Yes.
Go to: Edit a Client Relationship
Choose which columns to display in the Select and Assign table. Your column choices remain persistent from session to session. However, the drag-and-drop ordering of columns is not persistent, meaning they are not saved when your session ends.
- Columns designated as "required" cannot be removed.
- Columns designated as "fixed" cannot be reordered.
- Select the column name.
- Select Add.
- Select the column name.
- Select Remove.
- Select a column name.
- Select Move Up or Move Down.
