- Create a WI Model
- Edit a WI Model
A Workplace Investing (WI) model is required to rebalance a 403(b)/401(k) account. WI models are associated with investment plans that contain specific funds. When rebalancing, WI accounts should have the same investment plans as represented in the WI model.
You have two options to create WI models:
Create a Model
This represents a new WI model that you manually create from scratch.
Copy an Existing Model
This represents a WI model created by copying the plans, funds, and targets from another WI model, which you may then further modify. (Copy an Existing Model)
WI models can be saved for future use and, if entitled, shared with users at your firm.
Some guidelines:
To create a WI model
Select Models > Create Workplace Investing 403(b)/401(k) Model.
Enter a Model Name.
- The model name must be unique within your firm.
- To define the purpose of a model, enter its Description.
Choose Select Plan(s) to add plans to the model.
- To filter the listed plans, enter a plan name, at least 1 character.
- Select the check box of one or more plans to add.
- Choose Select Plans.
Note
Changing the selection of plans for the model clears the choice of funds for the model. This requires you to reselect funds.
(If entitled) Choose the Access Type:
Public
Access to the model is unlimited to members of your firm.
Private
Access to the model is limited to you or another member of your firm.
Indicate tolerance values at the model level, which apply to all elements in the model.
- Select the Tolerance:
Absolute
Calculated as the Target plus or minus the percentages in the Min and Max fields. For example, ABC fund has a Target of 25% and you set the absolute tolerance band at 5%. Min equals 25% - 5% = 20% and Max equals 25% + 5%= 30%.
Relative
Calculated as a percentage of the Target. Min equals Target x (1 - value entered in Min field). Max equals Target x (1 + value entered in Max field). For example, ABC fund has a Target of 25% and you set a 5% relative tolerance band. Min equals 25% x (1 - 5%) = 23.75% and Max equals 25% x (1 + 5%) = 26.25%.
- Enter Min % (lowest percent of shares you don't want to go below).
- Enter Max % (highest percent of shares you don't want to go above).
Choose funds to add to the model:
- In the Funds column, enter the fund ID or symbol and press Tab.
- If you don't know a fund, search for it. (Select Funds)
- To delete a chosen fund, in the Action column, select its Remove link.
- Repeat step 6 to continue adding funds to the model.
Indicate target values at the fund level – either manually or systematically:
Manually Enter targets for each fund:
- Enter values in Target %, Min %, and Max %.
- The sum of all entries in Target must equal 100 %.
- Below grid, review progress in Total Target and Remaining.
Systematically Distribute targets equally across fund:
- To spread target evenly, below table, select Distribute Target Equally.
- If a residual remains, it is added to the target of the last listed element.
- To return back to prior settings, select Undo Equal Distribution.
To save the model, select Save Model.
or
To share the model, select Save & Share. (Share a Model)
or
To assign clients, groups, or accounts, select Save & Assign. (Manage Model Assignments)
Select the magnifying glass icon.
The funds available in your chosen plans display.
Edit an existing WI model by changing its criteria including its investment plans and adding or removing model elements (funds).
To edit a model, one of the following must be true:
- You are the user who created the model.
- You are a PM&R administrator at your firm.
You cannot, however, edit a model that was shared with you.
Guidelines
Changing the selection of plans for a model clears the selection of funds for the model. This requires you to reselect funds for the model.
