Overview

If elected by your firm, Fidelity Model Portfolios are predefined models available for use within PM&R.

Consider a Fidelity model as your starting point. As listed on the window, the models are read-only. After you determine which model best fits your customer's unique investment needs, save a copy of that model and then customize it's details (such as name and model type) and elements (such as funds). That model then becomes your model and displays on the Model List window as if you created it.

As a best practice, follow this process to save a copy of a model:

  1. On Fidelity Models:
Select a model to view it's details. (Search for Fidelity Models)

  2. On Model Details:
Save a copy so you can customize it. (Save a Copy of a Fidelity Model)

  3. On Model List:
Find your saved copy of the Fidelity model where, amongst other features, you can now edit, delete, and share the model. (Search for Models)

Note
Use Fidelity models to rebalance brokerage accounts to which you are authorized. There are no account type constraints to using these models, however, you must be eligible to trade the funds included in a model.

Search for Fidelity Models

Before choosing a Fidelity model to copy, view its details, which include model elements and target percentages. You can search for a specific model by model name or when last updated. Generally, most models are updated quarterly; some are updated annually.

To search for a Fidelity model

  1. Select Models > Fidelity Models.

    - Models list in order by Model Name.

  2. To search for a model, from Filter by, choose an option and select Display:

    Option Action
Model Name Enter at least 1 character of the model name.
Last Update Date Use the current day's date (default) or use the calendar icon to choose another date to search for updated models. Results include models whose last update date matches the chosen date. For example, choose 03/01/2021 to view models updated on March 1, 2021.
  3. In the Details column for a model, select Open Details. (Model Details)

Go to: Save a Copy of a Fidelity Model

Search for Updates to Models

Updates to the Fidelity models' portfolio allocations generally occur quarterly; some are updated annually. Your saved copy of a Fidelity model, however, is not updated. This means you must repeat the steps you took when your first copied the model. Features on the window enable you to search for updated models.

Note
To easily reassign accounts to an updated model, consider creating a group of accounts specific to the model. After you copy the updated model, on Manage Model Assignments, search by Group Name to locate the group to assign. (Create a Group or Assign a Model)

Field Definition
Model Name

The Fidelity-designated model name.

Since Fidelity models are composed of different share classes of the same active funds, a model's share class version is denoted by "I" or "Z" appended to the model's name. Review the funds to determine eligibility-to-purchase and the best fit for your customer's objectives. Z-shares will typically be lower in expenses due to no imbedded transfer agent fees.

Last Day Updated The date Fidelity last updated the model's portfolio allocations.
