- Set Security Cross Reference Preferences
- Customize the Window
Locate positions by security, account type, and account source (if entitled), for a single account or across all accounts for a selected client or group. Then, create the orders and allocations necessary to increase or decrease an equity, mutual fund, or option holding.
Up to 5 of your last position searches are saved so you can quickly retrieve results without having to reenter positions search criteria.
Note
Security Cross Reference uses intra-day balances that include open orders where cash is committed, i.e. buy fund orders. Unexecuted sell orders and pending allocations are not included in these balances. Therefore, if you have pending allocations, be sure to commit them before using Security Cross Reference; otherwise, it is possible to over-buy or over-sell an account. For example, if cash available is $10,000 and you specify 10% of core cash to retain on the Adjust Holdings window, a transaction spends $9,000 of the available $10,000. However, a new transaction will spend the same $9,000 if you do not commit the first allocation.
Begin by identifying the security to locate and whether it is already held by your authorized accounts.
Note
Use Trade Preferences to establish settings for Security Cross Reference including some prefills for Positions Search fields. (Set Security Cross Reference Preferences)
Select Trade > Trading Tools > Security Cross Reference.
Initially, Positions Search is expanded. If not expanded, select its + button.
Enter the Symbol or CUSIP of a security.
Or, look up the security:
Below Symbol/CUSIP, choose whether to search for holdings by Account, Group, or Client, and then enter the account number, group name, or client name.
Or, look up the account, group, or client:
Choose the Account Type of the holdings:
Cash
Margin
Cash & Margin
Short
Choose the Account Source of the holdings, if entitled:
All (Default)
Fidelity Brokerage
NFS
Choose one or both of the following, where applicable:
Accounts Already Holding the Security
Accounts that hold the security today.
Accounts That Do Not Hold the Security
Accounts that do not hold the security today; not available for option securities. If you select Cash & Margin, this choice is available, which enables you to trade the security based on Percent of Total Account Value. (Set Adjust Holdings Preferences)
Select Find Positions.
Go to: Review Proposed Orders
Following a positions search, up to 250 proposed orders display in the Positions and Proposed Orders list. Use links above the list on the right to toggle the display to view specific orders: All (Default), Buys, Sells. (Field Definitions)
Two additional sections enable you to edit the adjustments performed on the holdings and to edit order quantities:
Adjustments (Enter Adjustments)
View a summary of the adjustment performed and the price of the security used to create the proposed orders, and then adjust these settings, if needed.
Order Handling (Edit Orders)
Manage the proposed orders by editing order quantities and overriding account restrictions.
Several components in this section help you to understand the adjustments performed.
Note
Components become enabled only after you enter Adjust Holdings preferences. (Set Adjust Holdings Preferences)
This component summarizes the adjustment based on your Adjust Holdings preferences, which you can change and then reapply to recreate proposed orders. If you did not enter Adjust Holdings preferences, this component displays "No Adjustment" and the Buy and Sell boxes (bottom of window) are empty.
This component displays the last available price of the security. Use the button here to override the price and create "what if" price scenarios. (Override Price)
This component enables you to toggle quantities in the Positions and Proposed Orders list from dollar quantities to share quantities, and then view that impact to values in the Current Qty, Target Qty, and Difference columns. You may also choose to hide proposed orders with a quantity of zero.
To toggle quantities from dollars to shares, from the Units drop-down list, select Dollars, Shares, or Contracts.
To hide proposed orders with a quantity of zero, clear the Show 0 Quantity Orders check box. To show these orders, select the check box.
Components here enable you to change some characteristics of the proposed orders.
Highlight one or more orders in the list to revise the proposed order quantity. Note that you cannot edit a row with an original Order Qty of 0.000. (Edit Quantity)
If an order encountered a user-defined trade restriction, a Restriction icon displays in the first column (Order Restriction Ind).
To view up to 6 user-defined trade restrictions on the account, highlight the order and select View Restrictions. (How Trade Restrictions Apply)
To override a restriction, highlight the order and select Override Restriction.
A message prompts you to confirm the override; select Yes. If successful, the Restriction icon is removed.
Use the Order Type component to specify the order and allocation types to create. Buy and Sell boxes indicate the resulting number of proposed orders (if applicable, otherwise none) along with a Create button to generate the orders/allocations when ready.
The security type of a proposed order determines the possible order and allocation types you can create. For example, if the proposed order is for a mutual fund, the only selection is Single Orders.
When creating orders, note the following:
If an account holds a position in both cash and margin account types:
The combined holdings are used to calculate the orders. The Target Qty and Difference columns display the adjustment for each account type.
If reducing the holding, the cash position is depleted first; remaining shares are depleted from the margin position. If increasing the holding, the purchase occurs in the margin position only.
Buy and sell orders are created separately:
When creating both buy and sell orders, a warning displays on the Confirmation window after creating the first set of orders/allocations reminding you to return to Security Cross Reference to complete the second set.
Orders/allocations that you create and save using Security Cross Reference are posted to the Wealthscape Orders Unsent window.
From the Order Type drop-down list, select the order/allocation type to create:
Single Orders
Block Order with Allocations
Allocations Only
Prime Brokerage Trade with Allocations
Prime Brokerage Allocations Only
The possible orders are summarized in the Buy and/or Sell box.
In Buys or Sells, for the orders to create, select Create Orders/Allocations.
The appropriate order ticket opens. Security Cross Reference remains open while you work on the order ticket. Enter changes, where applicable. Some order ticket fields are pre-populated and cannot be edited. Each order that is created uses the same order parameters. The Quantity field displays the cumulative total of all the proposed orders/allocations.
Here are the details by order type:
Single Orders
A message indicates how many orders are being created, the quantity of shares (mutual funds and equities) or contracts (options), and the estimated dollar value of the orders.
For sell orders:
For buy orders:
For buy fund orders, you can change Symbol/CUSIP. This enables you to sell one fund and buy another fund on the same day using the estimated proceeds from the sale, which is based on previous night's close.
Note
Often there is insufficient cash in an account to cover the buy fund operation. Therefore, your firm must have a Mutual Fund Cash Waiver on file with Fidelity to use this process.

- A "fixed" column cannot be removed or rearranged.
